Legal Action Works (LAW) Center

The
Legal Action Works ("LAW") Center has served over 2,000
low-income people since opening in 1999. The LAW Center has
three full time attorneys and two legal assistants representing Dallas
County residents who cannot afford traditional legal services. Over 80% of LAW's cases involve women, and nearly
half of these involve some form of domestic violence.
LAW gives preference to people in our immediate
geographical area (see below), as well family violence
victims and those referred by other social service agencies with whom
the applicant is already working on their life issues.
LAW does not ordinarily represent anyone
outside of Dallas County.
The LAW Center concentrates on serving the needs of residents of Old
East and Near South Dallas, which includes the following zip codes:
75204, 75226, 75246, 75210, 75206 (south of Belmont), 75214 (south of
Gaston Ave.), 75223, 75215.
WHAT
we do . . .
Most of our cases involve
Family Law, which includes Divorce, Suits Affecting the Parent-Child
Relationship, Adoption, Motions to Modify, Protective Orders, Temporary
Restraining Orders and Temporary Injunctions.
The rest of our cases are a mix of Probate and
Heirship proceedings, drafting simple wills, consumer matters, Social
Security Disability appeals, employment related claims and other
matters.
HOW to apply . . .
Come in person to fill out an application - or download, print and
complete the application (below) and mail it along with the $25
application fee to 511 N. Akard, Suite 302, Dallas, TX 75201.
Once you have filled out an application and
paid a $25 consultation fee, an appointment will be set. After consultation with an
attorney, a decision will be made concerning whether we can take your
case. This decision
will be made based upon our priorities (see above), our current
caseload and the merits of the case.
