Over 1000 gather for the
11th Annual
Urban Ministries Prayer Event
with John Edwards
On
April 18, 2006 at
the
Hilton Anatole Hotel, former Senator John Edwards
of North Carolina delivered a message of hope that complemented previous
messages delivered at our Prayer Event by such speakers as
David Shipler and President George W. Bush
(then Governor of Texas).
Edwards spoke of his experience as Director of the
Center on Poverty,
Work and Opportunity, an initiative of the University
of North Carolina School of Law.
Edwards has distinguished himself as one of the few consistent, credible
voices raising questions, offering solutions and challenging the nation
to not forget our fellow citizens who battle poverty.
The former Senator, and Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2004
election, said that he was motivated to speak to the issues of poverty and equal
opportunity by his own faith and personal values. His speech was unforgettable and challenging.
