The Charlie Mae Ransom Technology
Learning Center is located adjacent to the Dallas Housing
Authority's Roseland Homes Housing Development. Known in the community
as the Ransom TLC, this center provides members of this neighborhood
with access to cutting edge technology training.
Launched in June 2000 as the CyberSpot, the
center was reopened on December 1, 2006 as the Charlie
Mae Ransom Technology Learning Center after Ms. Ransom, a
local activist and leader who has championed education in this
neighborhood for nearly 70 years.
The Ransom TLC offers:
-
basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office
training for adults
-
GED classes
-
graphic design and web page design
-
effective job search training
Our
neighbors can use over 15 internet- ready computer stations
that support specialty software designed for self-paced learning.
Another 15 computers are reserved for in a classroom environment for
instructor-led courses.

The center's programming targets those who are
caught in the "Digital Divide." The curriculum is guided by needs in
the marketplace. The goal of CDM's technology initiative is to level
the playing field and provide learning opportunities for all people,
regardless of economic status.
The Ransom TLC was initially made possible
through generous gifts from the Dallas
Real Estate Council, the Short North Dallas Community
Development Corporation, Fidelity
Investments, East Dallas Weed & Seed, and the
Hillcrest Foundation.
Our latest partners who have made the TLC
what it is today are
Microsoft - Las Colinas, the Dallas County Community College
District (DCCCD), the Dallas
Housing Authority (DHA) and other community partners.
For more information, hours of operation, volunteer opportunities,
contact TLC's manager, Charles Barnes at 214-823-4409.
