VOLUNTEER

Build community... one hour at a time!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Central Dallas Ministries. As our core values state, we find it so important to value both the community as a whole, and the individuals that comprise it. CDM places great emphasis on demanding dignity for our neighbors.  One way in which this philosophy manifests itself is through providing our neighbors with the opportunity to not just receive, but to give back. When our neighbors first walk through the door for services, they are often greeted by someone who has walked a mile in their shoes. By setting up our programs and organization this way, it reminds us all of the inner potential and value of each person.

This same value means that we don’t always have a strong need for outside volunteers. We want to give people the opportunity to engage in activities and projects that are mutually beneficial to CDM and our volunteers themselves.  Creating an artificial experience or a “busy work” type of project is not a good use of time for our staff or our volunteers. We believe in helping people fit into what is already happening here at CDM, and giving people a chance to be part of our community.

We can accommodate individuals and small groups in volunteer opportunities that include one-time, ongoing, and off-site projects. If you have a larger group (more than 15 people), we would love to suggest some of our partner organizations in town that can better meet your needs (see bottom of page).

All of our volunteer opportunities are listed under their respective program. A few examples:

One-time:

  • Painting

  • Landscaping/grounds keeping

  • Participate in our summer Urban Experience program

On-going:

  • Mentoring TRAC youth or Workpaths adult

  • Lending professional expertise in medical, legal and other specialties

  • Administrative assistance

Off-site:

  • Hygiene product drive for the Resource Center (shampoo, toothpaste, soap, diapers, feminine products, etc.)

  • Car Wash for the Educational Outreach Department

  • Bed Linen and Towels “Welcome Home” baskets for Destination Home Residents

  • Serve as an Operation Donation host site for the CDM Thrift Shop

Our program-specific opportunities show our current needs. However, the off-site opportunities offer you the largest opportunity to be creative! We are open to hearing other ways you can help partner with and advocate for us in the community.
